Drainage Solutions for Wet Yards & Runoff

French drains, catch basins, grading, and erosion control that move water where it belongs.

Water problems rarely fix themselves. Standing water, soggy lawns, washed-out mulch, and water collecting near the foundation tend to get worse over time — and can damage landscapes, hardscapes, and the home itself.

We start by understanding where the water comes from and where it can safely go, then design a solution that fits both the problem and the property's look.

  • Protect your investment

Directs water away from foundations, patios, and walls.

  • Usable yard

Reduces soggy areas and standing water after storms.

  • Less erosion

Slows and channels runoff to keep soil in place.

The Work

Diagnosing water before solving it

Effective drainage begins with observation. Where does water enter the property? Is it roof runoff, a neighbor's slope, groundwater, or poor grading? Where can it legally and safely discharge? These answers determine whether the solution is regrading, downspout extensions, a French drain, catch basins, a dry creek bed, or a combination.

Solutions can be practical and attractive. A French drain may disappear under lawn; a dry creek bed lined with river rock can become a garden feature; catch basins can be tied into hardscape so they're barely noticed. Any system needs a proper outlet, appropriate slope, and access for maintenance.

Drainage Methods

Common drainage solutions

The right solution depends on soil, the water's source, terrain and where water can safely go. Select a method to see how it works.

  • French drain: A gravel-filled trench with a perforated pipe that intercepts subsurface water and carries it away.
  • Catch basin: A grated box at a low point collects surface water and sends it through underground pipe.
  • Grading & swales: Reshaping the ground with gentle slopes and shallow channels directs surface water where it should go.
  • Downspout extension: Buried pipe moves roof water well away from the foundation to a pop-up emitter or outlet.
  • Dry creek bed: A stone-lined channel that carries runoff during storms and looks like a natural feature the rest of the time.

North Georgia Considerations

Built for this land.

North Georgia receives substantial rainfall, often in intense storms, and its clay soils absorb water slowly. Combined with hillside lots, that means runoff concentrates quickly and can overwhelm undersized solutions.

Discharge locations matter. Water should be released where it won't harm your property, neighboring properties, or nearby streams, and in keeping with local regulations.

Good to know: Drainage improvements can significantly reduce water problems, but we don't promise to eliminate every issue under every storm. Foundation leaks, basement waterproofing, stormwater easements, and work near streams or wetlands may require specialized contractors, engineering, or permits.
