Question 1

How do I start a project?

Accepted Answer

Reach out through the contact page with a short description of what you have in mind and where the property is. We'll follow up to talk through it and arrange an on-site visit.

Question 2

What happens during the on-site consultation?

Accepted Answer

We walk the property with you, talk about how you want to use the space, and look at grading, drainage, access, and existing structures that affect design and construction.

Question 3

What should I prepare before we meet?

Accepted Answer

Photos or examples you like, a rough sense of budget, any survey or plat you have, and a list of how you'd like to use the space. None of it is required.

Question 4

What kinds of projects do you take on?

Accepted Answer

Patios, natural stone, outdoor kitchens, concrete, driveways, retaining walls, irrigation, turf and sod, drainage, outdoor lighting, and tree services. See the Services page for details on each.

Question 5

Do you work on commercial properties?

Accepted Answer

Yes — see the Commercial Services page for the types of properties and work we can discuss.

Question 6

Where do you work?

Accepted Answer

Throughout North Georgia, including Dawsonville, Cumming, Gainesville, and Dahlonega. If you're nearby but not listed, ask — we'll let you know.

Question 7

Do you have offices in those towns?

Accepted Answer

No. Consultations take place on site at your property.

Question 8

How long does a typical project take?

Accepted Answer

It depends on scope, materials, site conditions, permitting, and weather. A small patio and a multi-level hardscape with walls and drainage have very different schedules. Your proposal will include an expected timeline.

Question 9

Does weather affect scheduling?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Heavy rain softens Georgia clay and can delay excavation, base work, and concrete placement. We'll communicate any weather-related changes.

Question 10

How do I choose between pavers, natural stone, and concrete?

Accepted Answer

Each has trade-offs in appearance, cost, maintenance, and repairability. Our patio materials article walks through them, and we'll discuss options for your site during consultation.

Question 11

Will my project need a permit?

Accepted Answer

Some will. Requirements vary by county and city and by project type — retaining walls over certain heights, gas lines, electrical work, structures, and grading near waterways often need review. We'll identify likely requirements during planning.

Question 12

Do retaining walls need an engineer?

Accepted Answer

Taller walls, walls holding back driveways or structures, and walls on challenging soils typically require an engineered design. Local codes set the specific thresholds.

Question 13

Who handles gas and electrical connections?

Accepted Answer

Gas and electrical work is performed by appropriately licensed trades as required by local code.

Question 14

What do I need to do before work begins?

Accepted Answer

Typically: clear access for equipment, move vehicles and outdoor items, note sprinkler heads, invisible pet fences, or private lines we should know about, and keep pets and children clear of the work area.

Question 15

Will utilities be marked?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Georgia law requires calling 811 before digging so public utility lines are located. Private lines (such as lighting or irrigation) aren't marked by 811, so let us know where they are.

Question 16

How do I care for a new patio?

Accepted Answer

Sweep regularly, rinse occasionally, and clean spills promptly. Pavers may need joint sand topped up over time; some stone and concrete benefits from periodic sealing.

Question 17

How often should irrigation be checked?

Accepted Answer

At least seasonally — check for broken heads, misaligned spray, and leaks, and adjust run times as the weather changes. Winterize where freezing is a risk.
